The ESRC/EPSRC ECHOES project created a virtual environment and character (Andy) for children with ASD to interact with -- by either initiating or responding to joint attention. Using participatory design, our interdisciplinary team created and evaluated a virtual garden in which children with ASD could interact with Andy by dragging or touching objects on a large touchscreen.
